Nicki Abel is a Lecturer Practitioner in MS at Birmingham City University and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, UK working both in education as a Senior Lecturer in MS and clinical practice as a Specialist MS Nurse.

She enjoys her dual role as she is passionate about both patient care and education. She organises and manages bachelor level MS modules and also leads on other modules that educate on long term conditions. Her latest achievement is the evolvement of an ‘online’ Bachelor of Science (BSc) educational programme on specialist practice for those preferring an e-learning approach to education.

Nicki has a strong interest in sexuality issues and has written a booklet focusing on the sexuality issues faced by women with MS which won an award from the British Medical Association. She is currently carrying out a national research project on the effectiveness of fatigue management groups.

She obtained her bachelor of science in nursing degree at the University of Central England. She is certified by the Multiple Sclerosis Nursing International Certification Board. She has authored several articles on multiple sclerosis and is on the editorial board of MS in Focus. She is an immediate past member of the Multiple Sclerosis International Certification Board (MSICB) and currently on the board of the International Organisation of MS Nurses (IOMSN).
