MS Nurse PRO was thrilled to host its Annual MS Nursing Community Gathering within the 2022 EMSP Conference on Friday, April 29 from 16:00 -17:00 CEST on Zoom!
The session was simultaneously translated from English to Dutch, German, Romanian and Spanish.
The focus of this year’s gathering was ‘Disease Modifying Therapies for Multiple Sclerosis in 2022’ introduced by our keynote speaker Piet Eelen, Clinical Nurse Specialist Multiple Sclerosis working in the National Multiple Sclerosis Center (NMSC) of Melsbroek, Belgium. In recent years, many new Disease Modifying Therapies (DMTs) have been approved by the European Medicine Agency (EMA). In his talk, Piet provided an overview of the current DMTs with a specific focus on the implications for nurse practices. The gathering also gave all the participants the opportunity to exchange best practices and connect with nurses from their own countries, in their own mother tongue, during break-out sessions.
After 30 years since the first DMT for MS, nearly 20 molecules are available in 2022. Treatment options for people with MS have increased tremendously. Although comprehensive treatment remains important, together with technological innovations, new biomarkers and novel information technology tools heading for personalized medicine, early treatment with DMT is crucial, and can reduce disease activity and in the longer-term progression.
Thanks to the large number of drugs we can adapt and choose the best DMT for MS patients. But together with this great choice, complexity of monitoring goes ahead and the vigilance needed to manage side-effects is becoming more considerable.
MS Nurses need to be informed and trained on a continuous base about the new DMT’s in 2022.
Next to the session on DMTs, the gathering also provided the opportunity to exchange best practices and connect with nurses from around Europe to more than 30 participants. The MS Nurse PRO team hosted an interactive session where each participant was able to share their opinions in relation to DMTs with other participants speaking in their own language. Each session was moderated by one of our team members in Dutch, German, Romanian, and Spanish!

The theme of the 2022 conference was ''A holistic approach to personalised MS care'', offering a unique opportunity to learn more about the different approaches on personalised multiple sclerosis care. The EMSP conferences represent a unique forum for the exchange and sharing of knowledge and experience in the field of multiple sclerosis.
