This year’s EMSP Conference was centered around the theme of ‘MS Care in a Changing World’, celebrating the vital nurse-patient connection.

With more than 100 nurse participants, the conference started with the launch of the new-and-improved MS Nurse PRO digital training platform. Quoting the words of Anne Winslow, the former president of EMSP: ‘This conference marks the start of MS Nurse PRO as an active community of nurses caring for people living with MS’. With that, the MS Nurse PPO team will continue to improve and harmonize the international exchange of nurses and people living with MS through our e-learning platform and beyond.

Continuing, Donna Nahal, UK-based activities living with MS for more than 16 and Stephanie Maw, UK based nurse addressed the topic of ‘The benefits of a strong relationship Patient-Nurse’. Speaking from her own experience, Donna highlighted the vital role of an MS specialized nurse, as someone she can have ‘complete trust in’. We have asked Donna to share her thoughts on the importance of specialised MS education:

“MS nurses enable us hold on to what’s important in our lives; despite the challenges MS brings. Specialised MS courses for these nurses means that they will receive the relevant training to manage the challenges they will face in their role. So we are able to retain and hold on to individuals in this very special profession.”

Stephanie Maw, expanding on the importance of building a connection with the patient also highlighted the importance of interactive nurse communities, such as that found through MS Nurse PRO. Communities can help exchange best practices as well as drive change.

A trustful relationship between nurses and patients is essential. In that, specialized training & education, as well as community involvement, play a huge role.
