This upcoming webinar is dedicated to one of the most pressing challenges in multiple sclerosis care today: how to ease the workload of nurses caring for people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS), while strengthening the quality and coordination of care.

Across Europe, MS nurses play a central role in supporting people with MS throughout their care journey. Yet many are working under increasing pressure, with growing caseloads, administrative demands, and limited access to the tools and teams they need to provide timely, person-centred care.

In 2024, MS Nurse PROfessional conducted a survey on workload management among nurses caring for PwMS. The findings were clear:

  • MS nurses reported an average caseload of 516 patients per nurse, far above recommended levels.
  • Many nurses described unfinished clinical and psychosocial work, often linked to excessive administrative burden and a lack of integrated care.
  • There was strong agreement on the need for systemic change, including more specialised staff, integrated multidisciplinary care teams, streamlined administrative processes, and greater referral authority for MS nurses.

Following this work, MS Nurse PROfessional developed a set of evidence-based policy recommendations and hosted an online policy roundtable with European and national policymakers, healthcare stakeholders, and experts. The discussion focused on the role of MS nurses in European healthcare systems and explored policy solutions to help nurses deliver high-quality care while reducing unnecessary workload. This public live webinar is part of MS Nurse PROfessional’s 2026 advocacy activities to make the MS nurse voice heard at European and national policy level.

During the webinar, you will

  • explore our survey findings and policy recommendations,
  • hear from Mavis Ayer, Multiple Sclerosis Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and Lead Nurse for the ODN (operational delivery network) in the Southeast of England

The aim is to highlight examples of what can make a real difference, including access to multidisciplinary teams, digital tools, administrative support, specialist training, referral authority, and prescribing rights.

This webinar is open to MS nurses, healthcare professionals, patient organisations, policymakers, advocates, and anyone interested in improving MS care across Europe.
