Call for Testimonies: Share Your Voice as a Multiple Sclerosis Nurse

MS Nurse PROfessional is preparing a policy roundtable with European and national politicians, policymakers, and healthcare stakeholders. The aim is to confront the systemic challenges faced in multiple sclerosis (MS) care and to present concrete recommendations that can both improve patient outcomes and enhance nurses’ working conditions.

However, to achieve this outcome, we need your testimony.

A Reminder: The Essential Role of MS Nurses

Specialised nurses are indispensable in:

  • Monitoring treatment efficacy and safety,
  • Managing complex symptoms and treatment side effects,
  • Providing patient education and long-term support,
  • Facilitating diagnostics and care coordination.

However, despite their critical role, MS nurses face significant barriers:
  1. Excessive caseloads – averaging 516 patients per full-time nurse, compared with a recommended 358.
  2. Administrative overload – diverting time and focus away from direct patient care.

Addressing these challenges is vital to sustaining quality MS care across Europe.

Share Your Voice

MS Nurse PROfessional is seeking nurses caring for people with multiple sclerosis who are willing to share insights on delivering such care within their healthcare systems.

We are particularly interested in hearing from nurses who:

  1. Work in a setting where their patients can (easily) access psychologist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist and a social worker,
  2. Benefit from efficient and effective digital systems,
  3. Benefit from administrative support,
  4. Can independently refer patients to other therapists (psychologist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, social worker),
  5. Hold drug prescribing authority,
  6. Work as part of an Integrated Care Team (ICT),
  7. Receive(d) specialised training/education in MS nursing
  8. Receive(d) specialised training/education in working with digital tools that decreases their administrative burden

If you can relate to any of these, your testimony would be of great help. These conditions are absent in many European healthcare systems. Your experience can help policymakers see what is possible—and what should be implemented across Europe—to ensure a better future for both nurses and people living with MS.

Why Your Testimony Matters

Your voice as an MS nurse is central to this mission. By sharing your real-world experience, you help us:

  • Show what works in practice: When nurses are able to independently refer patients, prescribe or adjust certain drugs, or rely on digital tools that reduce administrative burden, care becomes more efficient, timely, and patient-centered.

  • Highlight the impact of integrated care: Being part of an Integrated Care Team (ICT) enables multidisciplinary collaboration, ensuring people with MS benefit from the combined expertise of neurologists, physiotherapists, psychologists, occupational therapists, and social workers. Your experience within such a system can help demonstrate why access to ICT is crucial.
  • Expose the cost of excessive caseloads: Today, many MS nurses manage an average of 516 patients per full-time role—far above the recommended 358. Your testimony can help illustrate how this affects both your ability to provide personalised care and your own professional wellbeing.

  • Advocate for systemic change: From reducing administrative overload through smarter digital systems, to recognising the prescribing role of nurses in certain healthcare systems, your insights can guide policy towards a model where nurses are fully empowered to deliver the care people with MS need.

By providing your testimony, you will be contributing to a stronger case for change: one that not only recognises the indispensable role of MS nurses but also ensures that you are equipped, supported, and valued within your healthcare system.

Your insights will contribute to put forward concrete policy recommendations aimed at reducing workload pressures, strengthening multidisciplinary collaboration, and ultimately enhancing the quality of care for people living with MS.
